The EU-Mercosur trade agreement introduces revised tariffs that promise to reshape the trade of nonwoven materials between the European Union and Mercosur countries.
Exports from EU Member States experience high tariffs duties (26% to Argentina and Brazil, and 18% to Paraguay and Uruguay), while imports from Mercosur countries are subject to the EU General Tariff of 4.3%.
The new agreement sets a unified tariff of 8% for both imports and exports, stimulating the exports to the Mercosur countries.
In addition to tariff reductions, the agreement incorporates EDANA’s definition of nonwovens and revised rules of origin. Manufacturers will now be able to obtain local certificates of origin, even when using non-originating raw materials, making it easier to trade under the new framework.
