ISO and CEN initiatives on the milling method, and upgrading NW standard methods EDANA has a long track record when it comes to international standardi-sation. In recent years EDANA has revitalised its standardisation activities, in particular in ISO. Starting with the latest definition of nonwoven (ISO 9092), but also with up-dating long existing methods to test the performance of SAP (ISO 17190, parts 1-10) and currently TC38/WG9 (managed by EDANA) is working on ISO 9073 (parts 1-18). The ISO standards have more ‘authority’ in the market than industry stand-ards, primarily as in the ISO process other stakeholders have the opportunity to engage, which assures the standards meet the expectations of a wide range of stakeholders. This is precisely the reason why EDANA and its members are considering to make an effort to publish the method assessing the potential trace chemicals in AHPs as an ISO standard. This may streamline the conversation with exter-nal stakeholders on the chemical safety of AHPs, as the risk of incorrect test results will be reduced.
